Driving school celebrates two decades of success

A driving school based in the Lake District is celebrating twenty years of success in helping learner drivers pass their driving test.

Danny Harrison started the TopGear Driving School as a one-man business but thanks to the increasing number of glowing recommendations he received from satisfied customers, it did not take long long before he had to take on another instructor to cope with demand. Now, along with his wife Beverley, Danny heads a team of twelve, including a mixture of both male and female instructors. This combination is an essential part of Danny’s business as some clients frequently have a preference for one or the other.

For the last decade Danny has been qualified to train people to become instructors and he has used this opportunity to his advantage by asking the best trainees to come and work for him at TopGear. While his instructors take care of the learners, Danny now concentrates on corporate clients by running defensive driving courses for commercial customers. Although they are based in Swarthmoor they also cover Barrow, Ulverston, Dalton, Maryport and all the villages around Furness, as well as taking on learners from Kendal and surrounding areas. The TopGear Driving School has had thousands of learners pass their test before buying a car and searching for cheap motor insurance. Danny also spotted a gap in the market several years ago and launched a motorbike instruction service which provides another thriving part of his highly professional business.

Danny says: “Driving tests are not easy to pass so we need the best instructors with good personalities. Thanks to the recommendations, we are always flat out and we are very proud of our high pass rate. Because we are out on the road we are very lucky to have my wife organising everything back in the office for us.”

From 19 January 2013, driving licence rules will be changing for towing trailers and caravans, which means a third area has been added to the driving school. This area promises to be yet another lucrative part of the business, as it will attract commercial vehicle clientèle. As part of their twenty-year celebration TopGear are holding a 20-day promotion, where lessons for new clients will be a cut price £20 when booked between September 10th and 30th.
