Czech manufacturer scoops the board

For many years the name Skoda on a car was enough to make any motorist shudder at the thought of buying one. Its reputation was that bad. Needless to say motor insurance quotes were few and far between for models made by the Czech manufacturer. Perhaps only the Russian made Lada had a worse reputation amongst UK motorists.

Those days are now well and truly gone. Motoring magazine Auto Express, discovered that its readers now rate Skoda right at the top when it comes to value for money. Skoda scooped 5 awards at their yearly motoring awards ceremony, including Car of the Year.

The Czech motor manufacturer long ago became part of the Volkswagen group, and obviously this has paid massive dividends. The Skoda Yeti won car of the year and also came first in the Crossover section. Many motoring sections of papers and magazines really rate this SUV.

The Skoda Superb hatchback was voted best family car, and the Superb Estate managed to overcome all its competitors in the Estate section. The fifth award for Skoda came in the Driver Power award section. This is an accolade from consumers who vote on consumer satisfaction.

David Johns, the editor of Auto Express, commenting on the Yeti winning car of the year said “The Yeti mixes tough Tonka toy looks, sharp handling and a high quality and spacious cabin with the brand’s famed value for money pricing and customer service.”

Not only is the Skoda no longer a joke, but in a period of tight financial pressure, the Skoda models could well start hustling the bigger and more famous names in the car showrooms.
