With the release of the Fast And Furious 6 movie now on the horizon, car enthusiasts the world over are once again drooling over the prospect of seeing a startling array of high powered machines put through their paces on the big screen.
Whilst many of the vehicles to have featured in the series in the past were customised American muscle cars and Japanese tuner models, Fast And Furious 6 will introduce a range of European muscle cars into the mix.
We’ll give you the lowdown on which cars to look out for in the movie:
The star attraction
The question most fans will be asking is what car will be driven by the lead character Dominic Toretto? Well we can reveal that Torretto, played by the muscle bound actor Vin Diesel, will predominantly be behind the wheel of a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona replica. Whilst from afar the vehicle looks uncannily similar to an authentic Charger Daytona, gone are the pop-up headlights with a shorter rear wing and nose added as well as a General Motors L3 small-block V8 engine included under the bonnet.
In addition to the Dodge Charger Daytona replica, Dominic is seen driving a 2011 Dodge Challenger at the start of the movie – the same car featured at the end of the fifth movie. As well as the Dodge Challenger, the character will also be seen driving a 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda.
As expected, Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Connor returns in a Nissan GT-R, driving both a stock 2012 Nissan GT-R at the start of the movie, followed by a high-powered blue model boasting more than 1,000 horsepower at the end of the film.
Also unsurprising is that the classic Ford Mustang will make another appearance in Fast And Furious 6. In fact nine Mustangs, both 1969 and 1970s models, were used throughout the making of the movie, one coming to a particularly messy end at the hands of a heavily armoured tank – here’s hoping they had good motor insurance!
As previously mentioned, Fast and Furious 6 will include a range of European muscle cars. Seven 1970 Ford Escort RS2000 cars are featured in the movie, with just the addition of roll cages and stripped interiors differing from regular models.
Another European car sharing the spotlight will be the sporting GT-class 1971 Jensen Interceptor. Driven by the female lead Letty, played by actress Michelle Rodriguez, four Interceptors were used in the making of movie, all powered by LS3 V8s from General Motors.
Not wanting to be feeling left out the bad guys in the movie will also be sporting their own set of high powered wheels in the shape of 2010 BMW M5s. With an array of spectacular stunts featuring heavily in the movie, a grand total of 14 of these vehicles were used during production.
I’m sure you would all agree that we can’t wait to see all these cars in action on the silver screen. Strap yourselves in for an adrenaline-fueled ride when Fast And Furious 6 hits UK cinema screens on the 17th May.
