Summer of Events

The summer is always a wonderful time for those of us that enjoy motoring and simply love our cars. For a start it’s good fun taking your beloved vehicle out for a drive on a hot summer’s day, particularly if you happen to own a project car – something you’re slowly renovating for example. Make sure you’ve got some motor insurance and get out there on the roads to enjoy what little summer sun we seem to be having!

In addition, there’s just so much to do this summer! Of course the height of the summer, 29th June-1st July, will see the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed take place, however, in the build up to that there’s plenty to look forward to starting with this weekend!

80 Years of Speed

This weekend marks the 80th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours race. This is an annual event that takes place at the Circuit de la Sarthe in France. Victory in this event is one of the most sought after accolades in world motorsport. It is also one of the most exciting weekends for true petrol heads to attend. The traditional way to do it, of course, is to camp. Year after year masses of fans make their way to the circuit to pick a prime spot to set up camp and watch the race from. It really is a bit of a carnival atmosphere and one we recommend experiencing. If camping isn’t your thing, an overnight B&B can easily be arranged as well.

More Than a Test of Speed

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is more than just a test of car performance. It’s a test of grit, determination, concentration and sheer endurance which is why Tom Kristensen is rated as one of the outright greatest racing drivers of all time due to the simple fact that he has won the fiercely intense race a total of 8 times between 1997 and 2008, including six victories in a row, whilst Jacky Ickx, another famous name from the motorsport hall of fame has won it 6 times. Will you be there this year to cheer home the participants?

Another notable event that we highly recommend this weekend is The Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival at Brooklands Museum. This event will be a wonderful day out for the entire family, not just petrol heads. The event will see all types of vehicle take to the circuit including classic and vintage cars, pre-war cars, motorcycles and pre-war racing cars too.

Hopefully the weather will have perked up a bit for this weekend!

Will you be making your way there? Of course there’s so much more to come this summer too, such as the British Grand Prix amongst many other events! What have you got tickets for? Let us know by commenting below.
