A new Ford Focus ST is going to be hitting our roads later this year with the entry level model costing around £21,995. The new ST is set to build on a great line of Focus ST models that have rejuvenated Ford’s offering of hatchbacks in recent years. The new ST is set to be the best yet!
Under the bonnet lies a four cylinder, 2.0 litre, Ecoboost engine with a turbocharger that offers 247bhp whilst also achieving a great fuel economy of 39mpg. The Focus ST is bound to be nippy too with a 0-62mph time of just 6.5 seconds. Whilst the 2.0 litre engine is an upgraded version of the one from the normal Focus and Mondeo models, the ST is also 10mm lower than the normal Focus and will be equipped with firmer springs and dampers.
Furthermore, the ST will make strong use of an electric steering system that is designed to cancel out unwanted torque steer. This is something that a lot of front wheel drive cars, especially hot hatches, have struggled with in the past. A way in which to cancel out torque steer will only ever be a good thing!
The thing we love about the Focus ST models is that they are great fun to drive whilst also being reliable, good looking and cheap to run with motor insurance quotes always very reasonable for ST Ford’s.
Ford have claimed that the ST will be able to reach 154mph, however it has been reported that the new ST will be capable of more, which means it’s very quick in a straight line. But what about when you get to a corner?
Well, it handles superbly. The balance is fantastic with the rear axle seemingly involved in cornering whilst it also has a very direct and pointy front end. Furthermore, the body control is very impressive as the car remains hunkered and upright.
Previous Focus ST models have been very successful and this new one is sure to be a great success too!
