Are you looking to treat yourself to a new car this Christmas? If so we have put together a list of vehicles that are perfect for winter. Four wheel drives are obviously better for winter than two wheel drives as they have more grip on the roads and four wheel drives are a lot more economical than they used to be.
There are a range of four wheel drives that feel very similar to driving a two wheel drive but in snowy or icy conditions you are less likely to get stuck. There is also another option and that is to have a four wheel drive SUV. SUVs have higher suspension which helps them deal with slippery roads as well as tough driving conditions.
Here at MotorQuoteDirect we have come up with some vehicles that are both four wheel drives and four wheel drive SUVs which are suitable for a range of budgets:
The Dacia Duster was first launched in 2010 and became one of the first budget SUVs. There are some flaws with the vehicle but for the price you pay there isn’t too much to complain about. With this vehicle there is the choice of petrol or diesel engine but the best choice here would be diesel, especially if you are looking for a vehicle that can handle off road driving. The interior of the vehicle is pretty basic but the equipment is high spec and it is very spacious.
BMW 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series is now available as a four wheel drive and although it is much pricier than other models in the market such as a Ford Mondeo it is very high quality and there is a choice of engines too. This vehicle tackles long motorway journeys superbly and the four wheel drive makes the BMW a perfect candidate for staying stable on icy roads!
Next on our list is the Audi TT coupe. Although it is a sports car, you can opt for the four wheel drive version. They have a Quattro four wheel drive system which makes them better at handling winter conditions than their competitors such as the Porsche Cayman. There is also a choice of engines with the ultra-diesel option being very eco-friendly, saving both the environment and your bank account.
Mazada CX-5 SUV
At a glance this vehicle does look like a crossover as opposed to an SUV but the vehicle does come with the option of having a four wheel drive, a range of engines and has a slight feel of the Mazda MX-5 to it. The interior of the vehicle has a lot of space which makes it the perfect family car as it is safe during the winter too.
Suzuki SX4-S Cross SUV
The Suzuki isn’t the best looking vehicle on this list but it has been reported that it is fun to drive as well as economical. It has 1.6 litre diesel engine and although the interior has quite a lot of space it isn’t too exciting but it does have a large boot space.
Fiat Panda 4×4
This vehicle is the perfect combination of low cost and good off road ability. However it is quite a small vehicle but the interior does feel quite spacious considering the size. Given that it is a good off road vehicle it has a substantial amount of grip which makes it ideal for winter.
Range Rover Sport
No list of 4x4s is complete without a Range Rover of some sort being mentioned! The Range Rover Sport is over £10,000 cheaper than the full sized Range Rover although it does still come with quite a price tag! As you would expect this vehicle has a very luxurious interior and a high performance compared to some of the other vehicles on this list. If you were to opt for the diesel version of the vehicle opposed to the petrol option you will also save money on fuel and it has been reported that you could even achieve a figure that is close to the MPG of a petrol saloon.
As you can see there is a wide range of vehicles to choose from that are perfect for winter driving. All you need to decide is your budget and the features you want then you are good to go!
