The name Volvo comes from the Latin for “I roll” and was thought to be a good trademark for ball bearings as well as for cars. SKF sold most of the shares in the company and Volvo Cars was owned by AB Volvo until 1999 when it was acquired by Ford.

Volvo expects sales in Russia to double and exceed 20,000 units by the end of 2007 but elsewhere such as North America their market share is shrinking.
