Renault is a French car manufacturer and has been producing cars, vans, buses, tractors and trucks since 1898. The Renault Corporation was founded in 1899 as Societe Renault Freres by Louis Renault. The company is well known for numerous revolutionary designs and security technologies as well as motor racing.

The very first Renault car was the Renault Voiturette 1CV and was sold to a friend of Louis' father after giving him a test drive. The client was so impressed with the way the little car ran and how it climbed the streets that he bought it. The brothers immediately recognised the publicity that could be obtained for their vehicles by taking part in Motor Racing and Renault made itself known by achieving instant success in the first city-to-city races held in Switzerland, which all in all resulted in massive expansion of the company.

The company's compact and economical Renault 5 model, launched in 1972, was another success and the R5 remained in production until 1984 when it was replaced by the Super5. Then following this came the Renault 12 model and the R6 and the R16. Today, Renault has a large range of cars including the popular Clio, Megane and the Laguna.
