Driving Abroad – Denmark – Car Insurance

Denmark is an extremely tidy country that has beautiful sites to visit wherever you are travelling to. Nearly every city is located by a coastal area, forest or a fishing village giving you things to do and see wherever you go.

All of the motorways in Denmark are free to use but to use the Oresund Bridge you will have to pay a fee. The Oresund Bridge is the worlds longest cable supported bridge and links Denmark and Sweden together. To cross the bridge will cost you DKK250 which is approximately £26 and it is well worth every penny.

Sights you may want to Visit

The Strandvejen is a coastal road linking Helsingor with Copenhagen and offers some stunning views of the ocean. Along this route you will find the Modern Arts Museum and buildings in Klampenborg that were designed by the famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen.

  • All passengers in the vehicle must be wearing a seatbelt at all times.
  • Children under the age of 13 cannot sit in the front unless in an approved child seat. Children under 3 years of age or children less than 1.35m high are not allowed in a car unless they are seated in an approved child seat appropriate to their size.
  • All fines issued for offences such as drink driving and speeding are issued on the spot.
  • Buses always have the right of way on the Danish roads.
  • Motorcyclists must dip their headlights during the day and wear a crash helmet at all times. This includes any passengers.

Tips from the Locals

If you are waiting at a level crossing, it is advised that you switch off your headlights and use only your sidelights.
Parking in the Danish cities can be extremely difficult at times. If there is not a parking meter in sight then buy a parking disc from any petrol station, post office, bank or tourist office just to be on the safe side.

If it has been raining in Denmark and there are puddles by the side of the roads, be extremely careful. Splashing pedestrians whilst driving in a car is classed as an offence and if caught by the authorities you will be fined.
